Ubusu represents the moment of deep sadness that occurs after having to choose one of the two most important things in your life. It embodies the melancholic solitude one feels after letting go. There’s no anger but an acceptance of the change of direction: a fluid and progressing separation has begun. What is caste away never will return. What remains opens unto a world of new possibilities.
The texture also narrates the story. Rough and brutal chisel marks show agitation: smaller smoother multi-directional striations highlight the vacillation and indecision. Finally, smooth unidirectional strokes a metaphor of a calm letting go.
